Émil GIRAUD was an Aix landscape painter and pharmacist, a contemporary of Cézanne, and one of the founders of the Amis des Arts d'Aix-en-Provence. He married the daughter of painter Joseph Villevieille. He produced landscapes imbued with a soft, poetic light "à la Corot", inspired by the Aix countryside.
Anecdotally, his works attracted the famous art dealer Georges Wildenstein, who is said to have filled his hotel room with the painter's works while he was a refugee in Aix-en-Provence in 1942.
