Tree And Bush Rug, 120 X 176 Cm, Indo-persian Hand-knotted Wool, 1980, Very Good Condition
Tree and bush rug, hand-knotted wool circa 1980.
This piece measures 120 cm wide by 176 cm long,
185 cm with the bangs which are in very good condition.
The light effects on the rug are due to the addition of silk and also thanks to the specific treatment of the wool used for these rugs.
## In very good (borderline perfect) condition, finest quality wool for the velvet, impeccable bangs and selvedges.
This magnificent rug takes up the criteria of ancient Persian decors, knotted with great finesse and superb quality wool mixed with silk.
By 1980, we can scarcely imagine the immense labor involved in knotting such a marvel.
The quality of these pieces is unquestionable, the workmanship is fine, precise and durable over time.
These rugs are inspired by antique rugs with garden decorations.
They are therefore inspired by the parks surrounding the Shahs' palaces and use a symbolism of paradise, presenting a field covered with various trees depicted in a very realistic way, with a predilection for cypresses alternating with flowering bushes.
The composition usually provides for an oriented arrangement as in this example or gravitating around a central medallion.
In the 17th century, great symmetry reigned on this type of rug, in horizontal rows.
Note the very fine composition of the border.
The materials used are top quality:
the wool is fine and soft, taken from the neck and under the belly of the lambs (first shearing) it makes up the velvet knotted on fine cotton for the weft.
This rug is clean, the wool beautifully knotted and finely tightened, as these rugs always are.
It reveals shades full of contrasts, a great many colors, including many blues, reds, almond greens, blacks and ivories....
It is encircled by a border of branches and large stylized flowers.
Traditional wool carpet, comfortable and widely used.
The shades underline this skilful floral design in the great tradition of Persian art.
Persian art also found in Mughal art, inspired by the miniatures of the Tabriz and Herat schools.
This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
