Complete Samurai Armor From The Matsudaira Clan - Edo Period (1603-1868).

Complete samurai armor of the Matsudaira clan, more specifically the Okochi-Mitsudaira branch from which Tokugawa Leyesu, the first Shogun of Edo, originated.
One of the most famous members of this line was Matsudaira Nobotsuna (1596-1662), a major advisor to the shogunate. His personal mon was precisely these three fans, which are found on all the elements of this armor.
The fan (sensu) symbolizes expansion, prosperity and the deployment of good fortune; it opens from a narrow point to extend to a wide end.
KABUTO (helmet) in wrought iron with sixty-two black lacquered slats.
THEHEN NO ANA (opening at the top) with five chased copper steps, openwork, gilded and decorated with foliage scrolls on a nanako background.
SHIKORO (neck cover) with four steps in gold-lacquered iron and braided orange silk.
MABI SA SHI (visor), short, in black-lacquered wrought-iron, highlighted by a copper fillet finely chased with foliage and gilded scrolls.
FUKIGAESHI (wings), large, sheathed in brown leather, gold-lacquered beneath orange silk braiding and adorned with a gilded copper mon of the Matsudaira clan.
MAETATE, large, in chased copper depicting a dragonfly, wings outstretched. The Kashimushi "insect of victory" is a symbol of bravery and victory, as it flies while always facing forward.
MEMPO (half mask) in wrought iron, pronounced chin, mobile nose, brown horsehair moustache, visible teeth in patinated copper, upper lip lacquered in cinnabar red, pierced nostrils, sweat holes under the chin, red lacquered interior.
YODARE-KAKE (gorgerin) with five gold-lacquered steps and orange silk braid.
DO (breastplate) with nine gold-lacquered elements and orange silk braid, bearing the mon of the Matsudaira clan.
SODE (shoulder pads) with seven gold-lacquered steps and orange silk braid, featuring the clan mon.
KOTE (arm protectors) in chain mail and wrought-iron plates, the clan mon on the hands.
KUSAZURI (skirt) and HAIDATE (shorts) with five rows of gold lacquer and orange silk braiding.
SUNEATE (leggings) in wrought iron, orange silk braiding and quilted fabric.
TETSUSABIJI KOGAKE (shoes)composed of black and gold lacquered wrought iron plates, chainmail and quilted fabric.
Sitting armor dimensions : 162 x 70 x 81 cm.
Sold with its presentation stand and its GUSOKU BITSU (transport boxes) made of wood and metal reinforcements decorated with the three-fan mon of the Matsudaira clan.
