Beautiful, expressive white marble sculpture on a red marble base by Fernando Ciancianaini known as Fernand Cian (1889-1954), depicting a young peasant woman.
Signed, dated 1911 and having been exhibited at the Paris Salon.
It is in perfect condition and measures 47 cm.
History: the sculptor Fernand Cian worked in Paris and was a pupil of Alexandre Falguière (1831-1900). He exhibited 11 times at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1907 to 1928, with an honorable mention in 1921.
He developed a production of pastiches of terracotta busts of children, in the manner of the 18th century. A terracotta bust bearing the date 1771 is preserved in the Louvre Museum.
These marble works are rare on the market.
