Pair Of Richard Sapper Office Chairs, Knoll International Edition, Leather And Glides, Circa
■ PRESENTATION OF THE WORK
Gallery Les Merciers is offering for purchase this elegant pair of office chairs, designed by German industrial designer Richard Sapper (1932-2015) for Knoll. Sapper, whose work focused on technical complexity and purity of line (awarded ten Compasso d'Oro awards), delivered with this 1979 series a masterful reflection on ergonomics in the workplace.
■ ANALYSIS AND MATERIALS
This pair is distinguished by its specific so-called "conference" or "visitor" configuration: the five-star cruciform base rests on wide circular metal glides, giving the whole a large architectural seat. The seat and backrest are upholstered in high-quality black leather, structured by horizontal stitching. The armrests are in black grained plastic. These seats feature precision mechanics: central swivel, altimetric adjustment (50 to 54 cm) and tilt adjustment by double lever.
■ STATUS REPORT
The price is for the pair. These two seats are in excellent original condition and mechanical working order. The leather has retained all its suppleness and matte finish, showing a very slight patina of use which guarantees its authenticity. The metal structures are sound. Knoll label on foot.
