Réné Amthor (1891-1935), Belgian painter of landscapes, portraits, figures and interiors. He began scientific studies in Huy, but was drawn to artistic expression and enrolled at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. He was first active in Namur, then in Boitsfort. As a young man, he founded the literary group "Les Hugolâtres" with friends. He took part in the Fine Arts Exhibition of the Namur Academy in 1911 and the Autumn Exhibition in Mons in 1913. Mobilized in 1914, he was taken prisoner and interned at the Soltau camp, from where he brought back many works. His work draws on post-romantic and symbolist literature, as well as memories of his captivity. Artist listed in Arto au Piron (Dictionaries of Belgian Painters), Coté Artprice, Artnet...
