Mahogany & Marble Console, Louis XVI Period - Late 18th Century
This elegant Louis XVI console table, crafted in the late 18th century, boasts a refined silhouette where the architectural rigor of the design combines with the warmth of solid mahogany and the subtle shimmer of the speckled mahogany veneer on the front. The curved, delicately molded waistband is embellished with inlaid light-wood fillets, accentuating the line and highlighting the cabinetmaker's meticulous craftsmanship.
A central waist drawer blends discreetly into the overall design, while two secret, perfectly concealed drawers open thanks to an ingenious push-button system under the console. This invisible mechanism, typical of quality furniture, testifies to sophisticated craftsmanship and a taste for technical refinement. The central drawer features an ornate key, a diamond-shaped entrance and a functional lock.
The fluted uprights extend the verticality of the furniture and rest on equally fluted legs, finished with sober brass sabots that both protect and adorn. A molded spacer shelf harmoniously connects the four legs, providing stability and elegance while offering additional surface area.
The top is topped with a Sainte-Anne gray marble carefully cut to follow the curves of the cabinet, whose line it perfectly embraces. This marble, both sober and noble, completes the overall balance of the console and reinforces its classic character.
A piece of charm and quality, this console offers a piece of furniture that is at once functional, refined and imbued with great elegance.
