Eugène Bulot (19th century)
Still life with grapes, peaches and melon

Signed lower left - Wrapping, restorations
Shown in a fine late 18th-century molded and gilded wood frame (sold unframed for €800)

Beautiful still life depicting an abundant composition of fruit arranged on an entablature, attributable to the 19th-century naturalistic tradition.
In the center of the composition, a cluster of black grapes dominates the ensemble, surrounded by translucent white grapes, velvety peaches, an open melon and various delicately arranged fruits. A vine branch with finely observed leaves overhangs the scene, adding decorative rhythm and extra depth.
The artist shows real skill in rendering materials: transparency of grapes, softness of fruit skins, and subtle play of light on surfaces. The dark background highlights the warm, luminous colors of the fruit, in a tradition inherited from Dutch painting.

Good overall condition - Cracking and light wear are visible, in keeping with the age of the work. Presence of old restorations.

This work is signed Eugène Bulot, a 19th-century painter specializing in still lifes. His work follows in the footsteps of the naturalist painters, with particular attention paid to the precision of drawing and the richness of texture
Eugène Bulot also worked on ceramics, adopting their formal characteristics. His technique is based on soft porcelain, but also on enamel and copper.
A work by him is on display at the Musée national Adrien-Dubouché (Limoges)
