Antique Painting The Conversion Of Saint Paul Oil On Canvas '600
Oil on canvas. The dramatic scene of the conversion of Saint Paul, recounted in the biblical book of the Acts of the Apostles, features Saul thrown from his horse, struck by a divine light from heaven that blinds him. In this depiction, the saint's figure is almost crushed, flattened to the ground, while the scene is filled with other figures, the horse, and the group of companions assisting him, who are in turn dazzled by the light, seemingly "hurled" from above by an angel, which makes its way through the jumble of bodies to reach Paul's face. The painting has been restored and relined in the past, and mounted on a new stretcher. Frame in period style.
