Female Nude with a Book, oil on canvas by Louise Landré, a French painter born in 1852 in Paris and died in 1934 in Paris.
Signed lower left.
Good condition; the canvas has two old restorations on the cushion and on one leg near the knees, and a small loss of paint on one foot.
19th-century frame in wood and gilt stucco with damage in the lower left corner (pieces reattached and small losses of gilding). Painting dimensions : 46 x 38 cm.
Frame dimensions : 63 x 55 cm.
Louise Amélie Adelaïde Félicité Landré was the daughter of Etienne Achille Landré and Angélique Jeanne Levesque.
Student of Charles Chaplin, Félix-Joseph Barrias, and Émile-Louis Foubert, she was a genre painter, portraitist, and landscape artist.
She exhibited at the Salon from 1876 to 1933, became a member in 1885, and received an honorable mention in 1911.
She won first prize from the Union of Women Painters and Sculptors in 1909.
In 1924, she participated in the artistic competitions at the Summer Olympic Games.
She died unmarried at the age of 82.
