A Large Maki-e Lacquer Tray With Autumn Leaves
A large Japanese black lacquer tray decorated in maki-e, likely intended for the arrangement of kimono, featuring an elegant autumn motif of maple leaves (momiji). The surface is traversed by a band of gold powder suggesting a stylized hilly landscape, across which the falling leaves are arranged. The composition is animated by large maple leaves in shades of red and ochre, accompanied by bamboo leaves and other seasonal elements, rendered with refined detail.
The tray is complete with tomobako.
Period: circa 1930, Showa period
Dimensions: 60 x 60 x 10 cm
Condition: Very good condition. Minor wear to the lacquer with small losses consistent with age. Wood slightly warped.
