Marie Désiré Bourgoin exhibited at the Galerie Bernheim-Jeune in 1888. He collaborated with Théodore de Banville and became Sarah Bernhardt's teacher; he painted a portrait of the tragedienne in 1889.
The Musée du Luxembourg owns several of his paintings.
