Stitch Tapestry / Table Rug, Conservatory, England, 19th Century
- Important table rug, needlepoint tapestry work, England, 19th century
- This rectangular table rug features a rich plant decoration: flowers, intertwined stems, fruits (grapes, lemons, pears, quinces, etc.) and vegetables (squash, artichokes, etc.). The result is a veritable woven winter garden, with a multitude of details to amuse the eye. It is composed of a central motif (an ornamental vase in bloom) from which a multitude of compartments develop, delimited by a beige listel, reminiscent of the plant embroidery of landscape parterres.
- This weaving is distinguished by the abundance of its plant motifs, but also by the freshness of its colors; a joyful partition of blues, greens, yellows and pinks. This work can be compared with a carpet in Shakespeare's birthplace, dating from the 16th-17th centuries.
- Lined weave, good condition
- Dimensions - height: 150cm , width: 190 cm
