Sofreh rug, measuring 112 cm by 123 cm, late 19th century.
These small, rather rare rugs are knotted by Berber tribes, Gashghaï nomads in Iran's Fars province, and Beluch tribes in Iran's Kurdistan region, each with their own unique design.

These Sofrehs are a kind of tablecloth placed on the tent floor to hold the breadcake and food for communal meals, and are only used at mealtimes.
Sometimes decorated with a cross to indicate the place of the dishes, but always square to almost square in shape, with a maximum known size of around, 170 cm x 170 cm.

Woven from goat, sheep and camel wool, they are wool on wool, and were always very well cared for.
Our model is decorated with an elaborate medallion and stylized tribal motifs, trees of life, flowers, cross.
It is in good condition and has shades ranging from sienna, yellow ochre and indigot blue.
These colors are all derived from nature, plants and minerals are used to make the dyes.
This rug is in good condition showing only minimal wear.
This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
