What ingenuity!
In the category of everyday objects used by nomadic populations, here is an extremely rare object. A true collector's item.
For the Yomud Turkmen, water is at the heart of everything they do. This object was used to keep this precious liquid cool. First, a ceramic jar perfectly adapted in volume and hermetically sealed was filled with water. Next, the outer walls of the jar were wetted and soaked. Finally, the small bag was immersed in water until the wool fibers filled with water. The jar was then placed inside the bag to keep the water cool for an entire day, even in the heat of the day.
This is the forerunner of the isothermal bag.
Woven and knotted wool on wool.
The velvet is about 1 cm thick, so it can hold a lot of water.
The tassels are made of horsehair.
The exclusively vegetable hues are wonderful, deep, dense and saturated.
The object is composed of two similar sides, each as beautiful as the other.

Circa 1880
Dim: 58 x 40 cm
