Théodore Géricault (1791-1824) needs no introduction, if only to remind us that his life was all too brief, but that his talent left its mark on an entire generation of artists as well as those that followed.
Our painting is a fine example of what Géricault's art infused into the community of painters around him. This stabled horse looks at us as if asking for some favor - a bit of oats, a trip to the pasture or something else - but more than that, he seems to be probing our souls. What painter is capable of such a feat, if not an artist of Géricault's talent?
