Charles Kvapil was a Belgian painter of the École de Paris, of Czechoslovakian origin, born in November 1884 and died in Paris in 1957.
His first works were exhibited in 1908 at the Antwerp Salon and continued until 1914. After the First World War, during which he was mobilized, Charles Kvapils moved to Paris and set up his studio in Montmartre, in the Hameau des Artistes, between rue Lepic and no. 11 avenue Junot; later he also lived in Villiers sur Morin, rue du Touarte.
He first revealed himself to the Parisian public in 1920 at the Salon des Indépendants and went on to become increasingly well known, eventually exhibiting his work in Paris, Munich, Brussels, Geneva, Italy, Stockholm, London and New York.
He is represented today in numerous public and private collections, at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, in the museums of Le Havre, Libourne, Rouen, Saint-Étienne, Amsterdam and Tunis.
