Ceramic Horse Heads, H70cm, Italy, 20th Century
2 large ceramic horse heads with a glossy white glaze, inspired by the "Horses of San Marco" or Donatello's so-called Protomé Carafa horse head.
The two heads have different expressions, mouths open, manes blowing in the wind or well-groomed, but both highlight the detailed musculature of the horse, suggesting realism and movement.
Twentieth-century Italian work, some wear, chips and old restorations (especially on the nose of one of them)
Normal cracking to the glaze
Height 70cm
52 x 25cm
