19th Century William IV Period Mahogany 4-door Breakfront Bookcase

Untouched Quality 19th-century William IV Period Mahogany 4-door Library Bookcase

An untouched early 19th-century William IV period flamed mahogany 4-door library bookcase. It features a square-cornered, moulded, stepped breakfront cornice above four astragal-glazed doors that enclose adjustable shelves. The lower breakfront section consists of four arched panelled cupboard doors, flanked by turned columns with leaf-carved capitals, opening to reveal shelved cupboards. The entire piece stands on an integral breakfront plinth base. This bookcase is of exceptional quality, with a rich, original colour and striking grain. Made in England, circa 1840, it comes with its original keys and working locks. This stunning antique bookcase splits into eleven sections for easy transport and remains in lovely, original condition. The shelves in both the upper and lower sections are fully adjustable.
The golden solid mahogany has acquired a rich, warm, honeyed patina, highlighting the figure of the timber and attesting to both the piece's quality and its careful stewardship over nearly two centuries. William IV bookcases are renowned for their combination of presence and refinement, often executed in dense, high quality mahogany, and this example exemplifies that tradition.
Condition is excellent, with the original surfaces presenting a deep, lustrous finish and only the minor, sympathetic signs of age expected in a well-preserved piece of this period. The overall effect is of a grand yet understated bookcase that serves equally well as a working library piece and a focal point in a sophisticated interior. A superb example of early 19th-century craftsmanship and classic William IV design.
