Seaside Village (brittany) - André Bourrié
André BOURRIE was born in Montpellier on May 4, 1936. His father died in 1941 during the Second World War. His mother died in 1945. Orphaned, he lived alone for some time before his uncle took him in and placed him in the orphanage of a Parisian patron who taught him his trade. He moved to Paris shortly after the Second World War. A qualified ceramist and director of a molding and modeling workshop, he ended his teaching career after winning the title of "Meilleur Ouvrier de France". From then on, he devoted himself entirely to painting.
He quickly took up painting while working in the building trade. In the early days, his main subjects were related to his trade: construction site scenes and the rooftops of Paris with their cranes and scaffolding. His personality asserted itself under the influence of this geometric environment made up of verticals.
Subsequently appointed to a position as a technical teacher in the provinces, André Bourrié gradually moved towards more natural subjects, such as rural landscapes, seasides and villages. The geometry of his early works remains very much present, however, with the rectangularity of dwellings and boat masts.
In 1978, he was awarded the French Artists' Gold Medal and an exclusive contract with the Wally Findlay Gallery in New York, which enabled him to hold numerous exhibitions in France and the USA, thus sharing his personal, uncluttered vision of the world.
In 1979, his art of painting enabled him to make a full-time living from his passion. In the early 80s, he discovered the lithography technique, for which he felt a real passion
André Bourrié was appointed painter titulaire de la Marine in 1983. A qualified ceramist, he runs a molding and modeling workshop. A self-taught painter, he is known for his seaside, hamlet and nature landscapes. His works, of great finesse, blend pointillism and neo-impressionism. His paintings depict a calm, beautiful and peaceful world. For him, water is a reflection that doubles the serenity of the landscape. His works are imbued with a gentle nostalgia.
In 1986, he met Vision Nouvelle. A close collaboration began between the publisher and the artist. It culminated in the signing of a worldwide exclusive contract for his graphic work. The first prestigious exhibition organized in Tokyo (Japan) was a great success, as were the various events that followed in the United States (New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills, Palm Beach) and the United Kingdom (London).
André Bourrié is world-renowned today. He died on January 6, 2017 at the age of 80.
