Pair Of Corner Blocks Stamped G.dester From The Château De Dampierre
A pair of Louis XVI period chased and gilded bronze light arms, with two leafy branches holding a garland of fruit and flowers, and stemming from a fluted shaft topped by a flowery vase with twisted flutes, the shock absorber adorned with oak leaves.
Both the binet and the bobèche are carefully decorated with flowers, cables, gadroons and a frieze of flowers. The two fluted light arms are sheathed in acanthus leaves, which open harmoniously on the drop of the arm and are tightened by a ring under the bobèche. A small laurel garland appears on the underside of the arm and around the bobèche.

These encoignures come from the Château de Dampierre, owned by the de Luynes family for 400 years.
They were commissioned at the time by Louis-Joseph-Charles-Amable d'Albert de Luynes (1748-1807), 6th Duke of Luynes.
Dester set up his workshop on rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, where he remained until 1790. Despite the archives, we haven't been able to find much information on this cabinetmaker, but the large number of pieces signed by him proves that his firm was very fashionable and that he possessed a real talent.
Godefroy Dester's production was of great finesse: Louis XV commodes decorated with Chinese lacquer, Bonheurs-du jour in Transition-style marquetry, Louis XVI furniture with very personal notes, most often in mahogany inlaid with flowers. All very refined. As ornaments, he mainly used fluting or fine bronze baguettes.
