Italian Plastic Artist (18th Century) - Allegory Of Vanity.
Artist: Artiste Plasticien Italien (xviiie Siècle)
Italian modeller (18th century) - Allegory of Vanity.
17 x 12 x h 42 cm.
Fully modelled terracotta figure.
The group depicts a standing female figure, partially draped with bare breast, raising one arm to hold a mirror. At her feet, a putto carries a flower-filled cornucopia. Set on an oval base, the composition is the work of a highly skilled modeller, with the drapery rendered with fluency and the figures conveying a convincing sense of movement. The iconographic type recalls Baroque allegories of Vanity, here reinterpreted in an ornamental vein consistent with Rococo taste.
