19th Century, Gilt Bronze And Porcelain Mantelpiece In The Meissen Style
Mantelpiece composed of three finely chased gilt bronze elements adorned with polychrome porcelain figures, 19th century work.
The set features a rich rocaille-style decoration, characteristic of the Louis XV taste revived under the Second Empire. The gilded bronze mounts, with foliate scrolls and plant motifs, support high-quality porcelain subjects depicting mythological and Bacchic-inspired figures, treated with precise modeling and delicate polychromy.
The fine execution of the figures, particularly in the rendering of complexions, drapery and naturalistic elements such as bunches of grapes, evokes the productions of the great German manufactures, and more particularly those of Meissen.
The central piece takes the form of a porcelain bowl decorated with floral reserves, held in place by an openwork bronze mount. The two side candelabras, with several arms of light, repeat the same decorative vocabulary and ensure perfect overall coherence.
No visible marks, yet the quality of execution and attention to detail place this work in a high-level 19th-century production.
Elegant, well-balanced decorative ensemble, typical of beautifully crafted mantel trimmings, sought after both for the richness of its composition and the quality of its materials.
