Chapska Troupe Lancier Garde Nationale 1845, France Cavalerie / Schapska / Szapska / Shapska
Beautiful National Guard lancier chapska model 1845 for a trooper. It was worn until 1852 when Louis-Napoleon became emperor.
Rare headdress in this state of preservation and authenticity.
It consists of a bomb topped by a high pavilion and a top plate.
The bomb has a waterproofed strong cardboard carcass, covered with black patent leather and a wide 4 cm madder braid.
The front is adorned with a silvered copper front plate in the shape of a radiant sun with, in the center, a brass rooster -- emblem of the July Monarchy (about 15 cm high in the center). It also bears the motto: "Liberté, Ordre Public".
The sides are trimmed with two silvered copper leonine masks for attaching a metal curb chain.
At the rear, the bomb features a black waxed basane, conical in shape.
Black leather inner cap cut into seven wolf's teeth, with its very rare leather chinstrap still present.
The bomb is topped by a wide, four-sided cardboard pavilion covered in royal blue ribbed cloth and garance piping. The pavilion is further adorned on the left front with a 5 cm diameter tricolor cloth roundel.
Finally, the pavilion is covered with a large 22 cm square "imperial" tray, also lined with royal blue cloth and garance piping on a cardboard frame. Each corner is reinforced with a silver-plated copper wedge. The front right corner has a hook for the metal curb chain, and the rear corner has a ring for the racket cord.
The visor is in black patent leather edged with a silver-plated copper piping.
Long, drooping plume, in madder horsehair very similar to the model worn by lancers but taken from a mounted artillery shako. Total length 30 cm (26 cm for the horsehair and 4 cm for the olive).
Very good condition. Small amount of wear.
Total height of the headdress at the front and without the plume: 24.5 cm
