Antique Kitchen Primitive Painted Wooden Bread Board With Pigeon,19th Century

An attractive antique primitive wooden bread board or kitchen wall board, likely Continental European, dating from the early 19th century.

Made from softwood and of generous size, it measures 74 cm in height and 43 cm in width. The front is decorated with a naïve hand-painted design featuring a pigeon at the centre, enclosed within a stylised floral wreath and surmounted by a red ribbon bow. A further floral motif appears below, giving the piece a strong rustic folk art character typical of early country kitchen decoration.

The painting is simple and direct in execution, with a pleasing primitive quality that reflects its rural origin. Such boards were both functional and decorative, often hung in the kitchen when not in use.

The shaped handle with suspension hole remains intact. The reverse is plain, showing clear signs of age, use, and honest wear, consistent with a well-used domestic object of this period.

Good condition, with age-related wear, surface marks, minor paint loss, and traces of long use consistent with its age.
