Pair Of Italian Landscapes. Henry De Waroqiuer
Artist: Henry De Waroquier
Henry de WAROQUIER (1881-1970). Village in Italy.
1 Oil on canvas, signed lower right and numbered.
Dimensions: 36 CM X 28 CM unframed and 50 CM X 42 CM framed.
The painter has chosen to plunge us into a stormy atmosphere, that of a beautiful Italian village with dark skies tinged with black and gray heralding a strong storm.
The fields of olive trees are restless and the village erected is ready to welcome the storm.
Born in Paris and living not far from the Durand-Ruel gallery, Henry de Waroquier acquired an early taste for painting by observing the paintings of the Impressionists.
Trained in natural history and architecture, his first canvases were painted in Brittany under the influence of the Impressionists, Cubists and Nabis. Back in Paris, he rubbed shoulders with Modigliani.
He traveled extensively in Italy, Greece, Egypt and Spain, and color came to play an important role in his paintings.
Henry de Waroquier was a painter who also needed to express himself as a sculptor and engraver. His sculptures were numerous, and he created a highly successful work for the Palais de Chaillot.
EXHIBITIONS: He exhibited at the Autumn and Independents Salons from 1906-1970 and internationally.
MUSEUMS: d'Art Moderne de Paris, Guggenheim de Bilbao, d'Daubigny, de Montmartre .....
2 Oil on canvas signed and numbered lower right.
Dimensions: 35 CM X 25 CM unframed and 50 CM X 39 CM framed.
Henry de WAROQIER plunges us into the heart of Umbria in the light-flooded village of Angelo. The rocky, ochre-yellow earth is dotted with olive trees and dark-green conifers.
The village, with its white houses and prismatic red-brick roofs, peacefully dominates the olive groves and is imbued with Cubist influence. In the distance, the gently shaped mountains fade into the bright blue of the summer sky.
