Joseph Paul Meslé (1855-1927)Born January 25, 1855 in Saint-Servan, near Saint-Malo, his talent for drawing was so obviouswere so obvious that the young boy was referred to the École desBeaux-arts de Rennes.In 1875, Meslé left for the Beaux-Arts in Paris with a letter ofrecommendation from Jean François Millet (1814-1875), a brilliant, hard-working andhard-working, conscientious student, in participated in the 1880 Salon. Ten years later heleave the French Artists to join, in 1892, Rodin, Puvis dChavannes, the splittists of the Société nationale des Beaux-Arts. Meslésettled in Reins in 1881-1882, and quickly became a renowned portrait painter.In 1890, he married Yacinthe Bremontier. They moved to Jaulgonnealong the Marne river, between Dormans and Château-Thierry, a few kilometreskilometers from his colleague Léon Lhermitte (1844-1925).In 1896, the couple moved to Chamigny. Deeply involved in the pictorialmovements of his time, he heard the cry of the Fauves, exhibited with theneo-impressionists of Lagny, and frequented Lhermitte and the painters of Luzancy,Bouché and Massé.In Chamigny, Meslé gave his advice to an enthusiastic young man,violinist and painting enthusiast André Planson (1898-1981).Meslé enjoyed success, his paintings selling well in France and the United States.in France and the United States, he exhibited at the Galerie Georges Petit.his entire stock of canvases.Meslé died suddenly on June 20, 1927.Public collections :Musée des Beau- arts de ReinsMusée des Beau- arts de RennesMusée de Saint-MaloMusée d'Art moderne de la Ville de ParisMusée Fabre de MontpellierMusée Briard de JouarreChamigny Town Hall
