Andrés Dols (1940-?) - Flemish Still Life
Oil on canvas. Original canvas. Signed by hand. Studio label on back.
Born in 1940 in a hairdressing salon on Calle Benlliure in Alacuás, Andrés Dols seemed predestined for hairdressing, but fate, with its usual disdain for earthly projects, gave him the gift of the paintbrush. What his parents feared was a passing fad turned out, under the tutelage of Ramón Ribes, to be an innate mastery of drawing, forged in the discipline of fan-making workshops and honed with brio at Valencia's Academy of Fine Arts alongside masters such as Jenaro Lahuerta. His rise from commercial painting to the aristocratic haven of the Count de Baño's studio consolidated a superb art, which the nobleman himself defined as a mastery of resources without ostentation. A brilliant artistic career, marked by over forty exhibitions and works in the most prestigious collections in Europe and America, made Dols an emblematic figure of figurative Impressionism. From his studio in Alacuàs, he remains a figurehead, bearing witness to the same tireless dedication that characterizes one who regards true art as a transmission of the spirit.
- Image size unframed: 73 x 60 cm / 84 x 70 cm with custom frame.
