Roger Capron – “sun” Coffee Table, Circa 1975 – Glazed Ceramic And Metal Structure
Superb coffee table model "Soleil" created by Roger Capron (1922-2006), a major figure in post-war French ceramics and a key player in the Vallauris school.
This iconic 1970s piece features a glazed ceramic tile top assembled in a powerful, perfectly balanced graphic composition. The central motif, depicting a stylized radiant face, evokes an abstract sun, surrounded by radiating lines and bands of color in tones typical of the period: ochres, browns, bluish grays and deep red.
The set rests on a base of glazed ceramic tiles.
The ensemble rests on a sober, elegant metal structure, which highlights the richness of the tray without distracting from it.
Each tile features unique glaze work, with a light network of craquelures (craquelé) and variations in hue characteristic of Capron's handcrafted productions, giving the piece all its depth and authenticity.
Iconic model of 70s French design, at the crossroads of art and furniture.
