A Six-panel Gold Leaf Screen With Cranes Among Bamboo And Peonies
An antique Japanese Kano school six-panel screen in gold leaf and natural pigments depicting cranes, peonies, and bamboo.
The composition unfolds over a wide golden ground. On the left rises a group of tall bamboo stalks with slender leaves. At the center are two cranes, an adult with the characteristic red crown and a juvenile beside it.
On the right, among stylized clouds, a body of water opens, along whose banks peonies bloom in shades of pink, white, and red.
Bordeaux lacquered frame.
Period: Edo period, 18th century
Dimensions: 167 × 379 cm
Condition: The screen is in good condition. Minor signs of wear, stains, and some cracks across the surface. Restorations consistent with the period. Slight wear to the lacquered frame.
