Trolling lure hook known as an Ipa or Aipa

Mother-of-pearl, copper, horsehair and cotton

A hook depicting a stylised fish, whose body—carved from a section of mother-of-pearl with a pinkish sheen—evokes the hook shank and scales, and whose tail is represented by two tufts of brown horsehair.
The copper barb is a reused ship’s nail, attached to the shank with cotton thread.
