Pair Of Gilded Carved Wood Valances Louis XV Bed Decoration Home Décor Bed
Important pair of carved and gilded wood furniture valances, French work from the second half of the 19th century.
The composition seduces by its decorative balance, mixing general symmetry and rocaille nervousness, with a central motif of confronted roses on a squared background, framed by wide lateral volutes and leafy falls. The overall effect is highly theatrical, highly decorative and fully representative of Napoleon III's taste for lavish revivals of the Louis XV style. This type of ornament is in keeping with the tradition of the great French furniture decorations of the 19th century, designed to dialogue with curtains, lambrequins, trimmings and rich hangings.
Old condition: gilding wear, rubbing, chips, small chips, accidents and old restorations, particularly on certain reliefs and extremities. The central bouquet also shows visible alterations. These flaws, however, do not detract from the very strong decorative presence of the whole, which retains an elegant, spectacular and sincere reading. Very fine overall patina of age.
Ideal piece for decorating a château, mansion, maison de maître, boutique, gallery or decorator's project seeking a characterful antique element, at once ornamental, architectural and highly evocative of 19th-century French taste.
