About Marcel Laquay Painter Artist
Born: January 8, 1925, Monchy-Cayeux / Died: March 21, 2014 (age 89)
At the end of the war, Marcel LAQUAY took part in his first exhibitions and in 1945 received the Mérite diploma from the Salon des arts appliqués in Arras, where he attended the École des beaux-arts.
Impressionist to the core, Marcel LAQUAY has always disregarded trends and fashions in order to deepen the communion with nature that he has so brilliantly, faithfully and pleasurably restored, and he has always favored true contact with the motif where the most invigorating Norman sites reign. Indeed, Marcel LAQUAY worked with equal ease in the Pays de Caux, the Bocage or the Avranchin, without neglecting Paris or Morocco, adapting to light and color without losing an inch of his personality. His essential grounding as a draughtsman allowed him to be daring; no difficulty put him off, and he never felt more at ease when he mastered perspective, breathed movement into the elements and made his touch vibrate with vitality and warmth, well in tune with omnipresent nature.
He exhibited in many French and foreign cities.
Distinctions: Ordre des ARTS et des LETTRES, Médaille d'Or "hors compétition" du Salon des Artistes Français au Grand Palais à Paris.
"More Norman than this native of Pas de Calais was hardly possible. Indeed, Marcel LAQUAY remained faithful to the Rollin gallery and the Rouen salons, while spreading his talent as a draughtsman and painter to the most renowned national and international picture-boards, not to mention the most renowned juries on which he sat. An Impressionist to the core, Marcel LAQUAY always ignored trends and fashions in his quest to deepen his communion with nature, which he rendered with such brilliance, fidelity and pleasure, and he always favored true contact with the motif, where the most invigorating Norman sites reign. Indeed, Marcel LAQUAY worked with equal ease in the Pays de Caux, the Bocage or the Avranchin, without neglecting Paris or Morocco, adapting to light and color without losing an inch of his personality. His essential grounding as a draughtsman allowed him every boldness; no difficulty put him off, and he never felt more at ease when he mastered perspective, breathed movement into the elements and made his touch vibrate with vitality and warmth, well in tune with omnipresent nature. He left us on March 21, 2014."
