Hour and quarter repeater pocket watch in 18k gold signed “Dubois et Fils”.
19th century, 1820.
The watchmaking company Philippe Dubois et fils was officially founded in 1785 in Le Locle, which makes it perhaps the oldest watch manufacturer in Switzerland. The name Dubois was carried for nearly two centuries thanks to the involvement of six generations of direct descendants of Philippe Dubois-Sandoz (1738-1808). Since his father was involved in the watch trade and Philippe Dubois inherited it directly from his company, the company could even be dated earlier. Moïse Dubois could be considered as the founder of the company and researchers found documents according to which he already marketed watches in 1743. In 1760, the company was taken over by the sons of Moïs, Philippe Dubois and Isabeau, under the name Philippe Dubois & Soeur. In 1785, Philippe Dubois welcomes his son Philippe-Henri Dubois as a partner and the company takes the name of Philippe Dubois et fils.

The watch is equipped with a golden movement with cylinder escapement.
