Flintlock Naval Officer's Pistol - Cassaignard in Nantes - Late 18th Century Detailed Description: A very fine naval officer's pistol from the late 18th century (circa 1780). Lock: Round brass body, bearing the engraved signature of the renowned gunsmith "Cassaignard in Nantes". Iron swan-neck cock with line decoration. Round brass pan. Barrel: 146 mm bronze barrel with a reinforcing rim at the muzzle. The breech has lateral flats and a front sight. It is richly engraved with a stylized fleur-de-lis, foliate scrolls, a cannon, and a quiver. Mounts: Cut and finely engraved brass. The side plate and trigger guard feature military trophy motifs (quiver). Pommel: Brass pommel, decorated in its center with a radiant star or a finely chiseled stylized sun. Mount: Select walnut, carved with scrolling foliage around the breech tang. Ramrod: Iron ramrod. Condition: Very good (VG). The mechanism is functional with well-defined notches. Note: The mount shows signs of old handling consistent with the age of the object.
