Hippolyte Lalaisse:
Portraitist, animal painter, and lithographer, he was born in Nancy in 1812 and died in Paris in 1884. He was a student of Charlet and later became his assistant professor at the École Polytechnique, where he taught from 1839 to 1877. The publisher Pierre Henri Charpentier entrusted him with his book on Breton costumes. He exhibited at the Salon from 1835 onward. Lalaisse published a considerable number of lithographs on regional costumes and uniforms.
