A very rare gift made of seashells, given by a sailor to his fiancée or wife upon his return... A box, resembling a book, containing four stacked elements above a very fresh watercolor painting... Few shells are missing... These gifts were made in the Caribbean, primarily in Barbados, at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries, like this one. The box, in its current condition, measures 18 x 12.5 cm and is 4 cm thick.
