Twelve Silver-gilt And Nielloed Spoons, Moscow 1850

Exceptional suite of 12 spoons in vermilion silver and niellé Russia, Moscow, around 1850

RARE COMPLETE SET – MUSEUM QUALITY Important and elegant suite of twelve teaspoons in red solid silver, finely decorated with a high-quality nielle decor, attributable to the workshops of Moscow in the middle of the 19th century. Each spoon has an ovoid spoon whose reverse is richly decorated with a stylized floral pattern, composed of rinceaux, leaves and florets, executed in black niellage on a golden background. This technique, particularly popular in imperial Russia, confers a visual contrast of great finesse and testifies to a highly mastered know-how. The decorative composition, perfectly balanced and repeated with rigor on all the pieces, reveals a homogeneous production of superior quality, intended for a wealthy clientele. The sleeves, slender and subtly punctuated with rings, end with an elegant baluster pattern, characteristic of the Moscow productions of this period. Visible punches include the title "84" (silver 875/1000) as well as 19th century Moscow marks, confirming the origin and dating of the whole. Presented in their old box, probably original, these spoons are a particularly sought-after complete set, both for their decorative quality and for their remarkable state of conservation. State Excellent general condition. No deformation or accident. Gilding (vermeil) well preserved and homogeneous. Perfectly coherent set. Moscow, alongside St. Petersburg, is one of the major production centers, where the quality of execution and the richness of the decorations reach a particularly high level. The presence of a finely executed niellé decor, combined with a perfect homogeneity of the twelve pieces, places this set in a higher category compared to more common productions. The preservation of vermilion and the absence of a monogram further reinforce its appeal on the international market. Comparable ensembles, especially when they are signed or awarded to prestigious houses, can reach much higher levels. In this context, this set has an excellent relationship between quality, scarcity and value. ESTIMATION AND POSITIONING €3,200 – €3,500
