A Couple Of Calabrian Women In Polychrome Wood, Inscribed “calabreses,” Dated 1869, Illegible Signature
Artist: Illisible
An interesting polychrome wooden sculpture of a Calabrian bandit couple and their wife. Under the base of one of them, the word "Calabrian" and the date 1869 are inscribed in pen. Under the base of the other is inscribed "Messina 1869." The artist's signature is illegible. The costumes are richly polychrome, the faces very expressive; only the hands are simply sketched. For an additional €150, two globes and their stands from the same period, though not original, can be included.
