Coffee Table Signed R. Capron, Les Herbiers Collection, Vallauris – 1960

A superb round table by Roger Capron, the iconic Vallauris ceramist, who surrounded himself with the finest artisans to bring his famous "Les Herbiers" collection to life. This vintage piece embodies the perfect blend of artistic craftsmanship and a tribute to Mediterranean nature. The tabletop is composed of garrigue tiles made by pressing plants native to the South of France, which, once fired, leave a beautifully detailed charred imprint. Each tile is then sculpted and arranged in a radiating pattern around a central medallion, creating a botanical composition that is both graphic and poetic. The warm hues—ochres, browns, and sienna—evoke the landscapes of the South and lend the whole an autumnal atmosphere. The solid wood frame, with four sturdy legs joined by crossed braces, underscores the quality of the craftsmanship and harmoniously frames the design. The "R. CAPRON" signature is clearly present, a guarantee of authenticity and prestige. With its proportions, organic design, and the beauty of its plant motifs, this coffee table will undoubtedly become a centerpiece in your home. Roger Capron, born in 1922, settled in Vallauris after studying at the School of Applied Arts and became one of the leading artisans of the post-war ceramic revival. He founded the Callis workshop, then established his own pottery studio where he developed an inventive production blending decorative objects, wall panels, and glazed tile tables that would bring him renown. From 1955 onwards, he collaborated closely with his wife, Jacotte, whose influence is evident in the sunny aesthetic of his designs. Until his death in 2006, Capron embodied a French design that was accessible, poetic, and profoundly modern. ********Period: 1960 Excellent condition.
