Pair Of Paintings Depicting Game Scenes. Piedmontese School, 18th Century.
An interesting pair of oils on canvas depicting playful scenes from everyday life at an inn, where young men sitting on barrels are intent on, for example, playing instruments or playfully playing with a parrot.
These genre scenes became particularly popular in the first half of the 18th century and can be traced back to northeastern Italy, particularly to the workshops of late Baroque painters such as Pietro Domenico Olivero (Turin, 1679–1755), the Bambocciate painter Giovanni Michele Graneri (Turin, 1708–1762), and the painter Angela Maria Pitetti (1690–1763).
These works are in good condition and highly interesting from an artistic perspective. The painting, in which the young men are intent on playing music, reveals a rethinking by the artist, who likely intended to arrange the figures differently from their actual intended caliber.
The paintings measure 42 x 32 cm with antique frames and 36 x 25 cm for the canvases alone.
A certificate of authenticity is included with the sale.
