Small Chest Of Drawers In Amboyna Burl And Rosewood, Louis XVI Style – 1940

An elegant small Louis XVI style commode, made in the 1940s, refinedly combining amboyna burl and rosewood. It opens with three harmoniously inlaid drawers: in the center, an amboyna burl with warm highlights, framed by a light wood stringing forming delicate Greek key angles, the whole highlighted by a rosewood border that structures the front with sobriety and distinction. Each drawer is adorned with two round gilt bronze handles, finely chased in the form of a laurel wreath, a classic symbol during the reign of Louis XVI. In the center, a ribboned keyhole escutcheon, also in gilt bronze, houses an ornate key and its working lock. The front uprights are decorated at the top with a gilt bronze drop depicting a delicately modeled garland, applied to a pilaster. The lower crossbar is enriched with a bronze fitting representing acanthus leaves, providing an additional decorative touch without weighing down the silhouette. The whole rests on tapered legs, also inlaid, ending in brass sabots reminiscent of the tradition of 18th century cabinetmakers. The top is finished with white Breccia de Médous marble, recognizable by its grey veins and subtle purplish inclusions, bringing a luminous and elegant touch to the composition. A bright and perfectly balanced piece, this small commode combines the charm of precious materials with the rigor of the Louis XVI style, offering a presence that is both ornamental and timeless. *********Period: 1940 Excellent condition after restoration in our cabinetmaking workshop.
