Heavy 10k Gold Usc University Of Southern California 1983 Jostens Class Ring

A substantial American university class ring made to individual order for a graduate of the University of Southern California, USC, Los Angeles. Crafted in solid 10K gold, marked 10K and Jostens, the ring has the heavy, durable construction associated with better-quality American class rings of the late twentieth century.

The design is centred by a large oval red stone, approximately 12 × 10 mm, most likely a synthetic ruby or synthetic spinel, securely set within a raised bezel inscribed UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. The shoulders are richly modelled in high relief. One side carries the year 1983 and a classical academic figure; the other side shows the USC emblem with the university motto Palmam qui meruit ferat, together with BS, indicating Bachelor of Science.

Inside the band is a personalised engraving reading Denny Shea ΔΤΔ, identifying the original owner and his connection with Delta Tau Delta fraternity. The reading is based on close visual examination of the photographs.

Jostens, established in 1897, is one of the best-known American makers of academic and commemorative jewellery. Class rings of this type were individually ordered and personalised, combining university identity, degree, year, fraternity affiliation and owner’s name.

This is an authentic USC class ring from 1983, with both strong intrinsic gold value and collectible interest as a personalised artefact of American university culture.

Condition is very good to excellent for its age. The relief decoration remains crisp, the inscriptions are clear, the stone is secure and without visible chips or cracks, and no repairs or restorations are evident.
