Mezzandro Achille And Pier Castiglioni Stool
In 1957, brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni designed the Mezzandro chair, a metaphorical reference to a "seat made of metal and elastic," for the exhibition "Forms and Colors in Contemporary Homes" held at Villa Olmo in Como. It wasn't until 1970 that it went into production by Zanotta. The chair is based on a tractor seat. A tribute to Marcel Duchamp, Mezzandro is a "ready-made" created from existing objects but with a different purpose. It is part of the collections of major museums worldwide, such as MoMA, the Milan Triennale, and the Vitra Design Museum. The legs are made of chromed steel. The seat is made of glossy red epoxy-coated metal. The base is made of steamed beechwood in its natural color.
