Rouen Faience Dish – 18th Century
Cornucopia decoration
Dimensions:
Width: 35 cm
Height: 25 cm
A superb 18th-century Rouen faience dish, decorated with the iconic cornucopia motif, a symbol of abundance and prosperity, emblematic of the Rouen decorative repertoire.
The composition is particularly well balanced, featuring a rich arrangement of scrolling foliage, stylized flowers, insects and birds, organized around the central cornucopia. The vibrant palette, dominated by blues, yellows, greens and reds, is characteristic of high-quality Rouen production.
The shaped, scalloped rim, enhanced by a fine red line along the edge, reinforces the movement of the design and firmly situates the piece within the Rococo aesthetic of the 18th century.
The reverse shows an unglazed footrim and a slightly nuanced glaze, consistent with period manufacture.
Condition: excellent overall condition, with only very minor signs of use, fully consistent with its age.
Gallery view:A highly decorative piece, equally suited for use as a centerpiece or displayed on a wall. It pairs particularly well with the matching wall pocket (bouquetière) of the same period and decoration currently available, forming a refined and harmonious ensemble.
