Flemish Painting Madonna And Child From The 17th Century
Antique 17th-century Flemish painting. Oil on panel artwork depicting a splendid Madonna and Child within a niche, surrounded by a garland of masterfully painted flowers and fruit. The panel features a carved symbol attributable to the Guild of Saint Luke (see photo), a guild of artists active in Antwerp during the Baroque period.
The composition follows the style of Cornelis Schut (1597-1655), a pupil of Rubens, both of whom were members of the guild along with the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age. A beautifully scaled and proportioned artwork, it is a rare find for antique dealers and collectors. The painting has undergone some minor restoration work, but is overall in excellent condition.
