Statue Of Vishnu – Khmer, Cambodia
This majestic bronze statue depicts Vishnu in the refined style of Khmer art (Bayon period, 12th-13th century). The piece is distinguished by a superb antique green patina. The eyes are half-closed in a gesture of meditation, while the tall headdress (jatamukuta) shelters a small Buddha figurine. The body, with its broad shoulders and powerful torso, is adorned with finely chiseled necklaces and armbands. The four arms hold the sacred attributes of wisdom and salvation: a scroll, a lotus bud, a rosary, and a water flask. Dressed in a short sampot held by an ornate belt, this bronze exudes a spiritual presence that is both protective and calming.
