Rare Pair Of Aristocratic Pockets With Fleur-de-lis Design
Pink velvet, green leather (Russian type), and gold thread trim. Revolutionary/Restoration period (circa 1780–1820). A rare and precious pair of nested textile pouches, of an intimate and personal type, made at the transition between the end of the Ancien Régime and the first decades of the 19th century. The set consists of two pouches that fit one inside the other, forming a compact case approximately 15 cm long, probably intended for private use—correspondence, devotional objects, or valuable personal effects. The exterior is made of high-quality pink velvet. The bases are made of green leather, possibly Russian leather. The interiors are lined with linen. The whole is embellished with gold thread trim and features a decoration of stylized fleur-de-lis, the emblem of the French monarchy. HISTORICAL HYPOTHESIS The presence of the fleur-de-lis and the quality of execution suggest an object of aristocratic or royalist origin. It could be a personal accessory that survived the Revolutionary period or an object produced during the Restoration (1814–1830).
