Late 18th Century Neoclassical Writing Desk With Inlays
Elegant
writing desk entirely veneered in walnut and rosewood, embellished with walnut
burl and inlays made with fruitwood. The writing desk features period-typical
truncated pyramid legs and a sliding top. This makes the piece comfortable to
sit on, without necessarily being inserted into the cabinet itself. Opening it
reveals the writing surface, complete with a red leather-covered lectern. This
also slides in the center and at the sides, revealing four secret drawers ideal
for storing objects. The piece also features five drawers on the front and is
open, as the masterful inlays can also be admired on the back. The inlays are
highly refined, featuring geometric motifs and the classic fan shape on the
edges, lending a superior elegance. This is a piece of great taste and
refinement, capable of adding a touch of class and antique appeal to any space.
Central Italian manufacture from the Louis XVI period, around the end of the
18th century.
