Infantry Officer's Saber

First Empire Infantry Officer's Sabre.
These sabers were carried by all junior officers of line regiments. They were in common use with slight variations, some more elegant and others more luxurious.
Solingen blade, with a shallow sweep and a single fuller, blued for one-third of its length and decorated with floral motifs outlined in gold, 75.5 cm long.
Brass hilt. Rounded guard branch, the scrolled tip of which fits into the pommel. Quillon curved downwards, ending in a button known as a "melon rib" button. Navette-shaped quillons. Short-tailed pommel, cut in a rounded shape and decorated with lines. Finely checkered blackened wood grip, with a very slight crack on the front.
Black varnished leather scabbard without edges, with two decorated mounts. Buttoned chape.
This saber is in good used condition with a beautiful patina. The blade has retained its original polish and some of its blueing, with traces of gilding in the recesses. The scabbard has retained its varnish. The fittings are undamaged.
